NOHRSC Snowpack Data

Snowpack Display - A new selector for snowpack data (lower left hand side) has been added to the web page. Property owners who are interested in the snow depth in the BMRA area in order to decide where to snowmobile or whether to come and visit their property should find this link helpful.

The snowpack display is updated daily using all operationally available groundbased, airborne, and satellite observations of snow water equivalent, snow depth, and snow cover. Snow observations that are used to update the display include snow data from the Airborne Snow Survey Program, NWS and FAA field offices, NWS Cooperative Observers, SNOTEL stations, and areal extent of snow cover observations derived from NOAA's GOES and POES satellites. All of the observations are processed by a model that takes into account elevation, temperature, and many other factors to create the data display seen on the NOHRSC web site.

The display has been centered over the BMRA area. To obtain a closer view of the BMRA area, move the zoom control slider bar at the top of the page. To do this place the mouse cursor over the control handle and move it about two positions to the right. Then click on the same control handle with the left mouse button. Use the color legend to the right of the display to determine the snow depth.
