INSTALLATION OF NEW SUBDIVISION SIGNS

Blue Mesa -
On September 15 Bud Fuller, Ed Lingenfelter and Louie Toth installed three new subdivision signs while
Brenda Shaddox photographed the work. A guest of Ed's, Kevin Kenman, helped with attachment of the
final sign.
The first sign was installed at the west entrance, facing on-coming traffic from the west. Then, the
foursome loaded the auger and headed to the eastern edge of the subdivision down the mountain on
County Road 25. After removing the old Blue Mesa Properties sign, Louie maneuvered the auger into
a precarious position and drilled holes for the second installation. The east subdivision boundary sign
is angled to be viewed by motorists coming up the hill from Red Bridge.
The auger was loaded yet again and taken to the Blue Mesa Drive junction with County Road 25 for
digging holes to install the third and final sign. The volunteers took a break for lunch at 1:00, then
returned to complete the job at 2:00. Ed's friend, Kevin Kenman, joined the workers for the final job.
Boulders only a few inches beneath the surface presented a problem. It took six attempts before the
first posthole could be dug deep enough to secure the sign. Even then, dirt had to be hauled in to
build up around the posts, because the auger hit solid rock before the requisite 2 feet holes could
be dug. In addition to a load of dirt, Bud brought in large rocks to act as a retainer for the dirt.
Brenda Shaddox sowed wildflower seeds in the new soil in hopes of a few blossoms to enhance
the sign and the subdivision entrance next summer
